The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale is expected to feature a light heavyweight contest between Matt “The Hammer” Hamill and Jon “Bones” Jones. The bout should be an exciting contest between two big light heavyweights with solid wrestling pedigrees hoping to climb to the top of the stacked division.
Matt Hamill burst onto the scene on the third season of the Ultimate Fighter. He entered the reality show with no striking skills and a very solid wrestling base. Hamill impressed on the show though an injury forced him out of the tournament. Most notablly Hamill faced Michael Bisping and lost a split decision to him, however it is widely considered one of the worst decisions handed down in recent memory. Hamill’s most recent fight was an impressive head kick knockout of Mark Munoz at UFC 96. The Ohio native looks to add to that with another win over Jones.
Jon Jones came out of nowhere to become a fast rising prospect. Jones is 3-0 in the UFC with impressive wins of Andre Gusmao, Stephan Bonnar and Jake O’Brien. Jones, 21, is one of the youngest fighters currently in the UFC, but is viewed by many as a potential star. Jones has only been training MMA for a little over a year, but has shown increible potential. In hopes of harnassing that potential Jones has moved to Albuquerque to train with Greg Jackson and his team which includes Rashad Evans, Keith Jardine, Shane Carwin and Georges St. Pierre. Not only is Jones one of the youngest fighters in the UFC, but he reportedly has the longest reach in the UFC. In his three octagon appearances Jones has shown his amazing wrestling ability, solid judo and greco-roman throws, and originality in striking which includes things like spinning elbows.
This contest will certainly air on the main card of the SPIKE TV event. It is also expected that the winner of this fight will be propelled into the top tier of the division.
The Ultimate Fighte 10 Finale is expected to take place on December 5th and will feature the heavyweight finalist match-up as well as the expected UFC debut of Kimbo Slice.
