It has been reported by several outlets that the UFC has secured a location for UFC Fight Night 20 on January 11th in Northern Virginia. It would be expected that the event would take place in Fairfax, Virginia. It is also likely that the event would be held at the Patriot Center on the campus of George Mason University. The Patriot Center can hold between 10,000-12,000 people.
If this event comes to fruition it could be the third event for the UFC in the month of January (UFC 108 on Jan. 2, UFN 20 on Jan. 11, and UFC 109 on Jan. 16). This would make sense as the UFC has said that they will host more shows in 2010.
The Northern Virginia area should have no trouble drawing a crowd as the city of Fairfax lies just a few miles from Washington D.C. This would be the UFC’s first event in the state of Virginia and shows the UFC’s attempts to enter new venues.
The one question has to lie in the competency of the Virginia Athletic Comission in light of one of the worst decisions handed down in the UWC event between Chase Bebee and Mike Easton. The hopes are that those issues will be squared away by the time the UFC arrives in January.
It is also believed that this event will hold host to the two msot recent welterweight signees in Mike “The Joker” Guymon and Canadian Rory MacDonald. The two are expected to clash at this event.
