When Josch Koscheck took on Paulo Thiago at UFC 95 on February 21st of this year no one expected much of a fight. Thiago was an unknown. Koscheck was coming off of a highlight reel KO of Yoshiyuki Yoshida that previor December. However, Paulo Thiago surprised Koscheck in round 1 with an uppercut that sent him to the canvas. The ref jumped in and stopped the fight. The stoppage may have been a bit pre-mature, but the Koscheck lost the fight and lost momentum.
It looks like he will get his chance for revenge. Koscheck is coming off of an impressive victory over Anthony Johnson at UFC 106 and he wants a title shot. A win over Thiago may get him the next shot (after Dan Hardy). The American Kisckboxing Acadmeny product has shown great improvement and I am sure he greatly wants this fight.
Paulo Thiago has proven not to be a one hit wonder. While he did lose to Jon Fitch at UFC 100, he showed many people that he could hang with the best in the world. He followed that with a UFC 106 victory over UFC newcomer Jacob Volkmann. Thiago would love to silence doubters and prove he is a top 10 welterweight.
UFC 109 is set to take place on February 6th. The card is runored to feature a light heavyweight bout between Randy Couture and Mark Coleman as well as a Heavyweight bout between Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Cain Velasquez.
