Bellator’s first season was impressive. Bellator really brings something usique to the table. Their tournament format gives fighters a chance to seal their own fate while they have the potential for a good payday. Not only that, but they have impressive and well respected champions in middlweight Hector Lombard, welterweight Lyman Good, lightweight Eddie Alvarez, and fetaherweight Joe Soto.
The next task for Bellator FC is planning season 2. They have been working diligently to compile a roster to see who fights the current champions. They will again host a tournament to see who gets the next shot at their champ. In doing so they have done a great job snagging the best un-signed prospects int he business.
Just today it was announced that they had signed top featherweight prospect Georgi ‘Insane’ Karakhanyan, who will be an early favorite to win the tournament and face Joe Soto. The welterweight tournament is shaping up nicely as they have signed Olympic wrestler and top prospect Ben Askren, top British prospect Jim Wallhead, Sengoku veteranl Dan Hornbuckle, Iraq war veteran Steve Carl, and a highly touted young prospect in Jacob McClintock.
Bellator continues to sign solid prospects. While maybe not seen as a threat to the UFC or Strikeforce there is no doubt that they are in the business of developing fighters and making interesting fights. Watch for Bellator to create fireworks in April.
