Filho, the former WEC middlweight champion was widely considered one of the top middleweights in the world at one time. However, he lost a lot of respect when he failed to make weight and lost to Chael Sonnen prior to the WEC middlweight division folding. Filho’s contract was not carried over to the UFC. Following the loss, Filho spent some time in a drug rehab program in Brazil. It would seem that Filho’s greatest opponent is himself. When his mind is focused he is tough for anyone to beat. He will need to be sharp in his return to Bitetti Combat.
His rumored opponent is the Japanese MMA legend and PRIDE veteran Kazushi Sakuraba. There are not many fighters who command the respect of Sakuraba. He is still one of the most popular MMA fighters in Japan. He is coming off of an impressive come-from-behind win over Zelg Galesic in October. The crafty veteran of 39 MMA fights will certainly garner a lot of fan support.
Bitetti Combat 6 is slated for February 25 in Brazil. More updates as they come in.
