12. Ben Saunders vs. Jake Ellenberger at UFC 111 on March 27
The fight that will get ignored on a stacked card. This fight will be a thriller….mark my words. Both guys have looked great lately. I think whoever wins this emerges into the top tier in the UFC. This has fight of the night written all over it.
11. Cheick Kongo vs. Paul Buentello at UFC Live on March 21
This will be an entertaining fight. There is not much title implications with this one, but both guys like to stand and bang. Buentello is more a brawler and Kongo more of a technical striker. Not only that but Kongo needs a win bad.
10. Jon Fitch vs. Thiago Alves at UFC 111 on March 27
Fitch won this first fight…can he do it again. Both guys are elite fighters who cannot beat St. Pierre. Both guys are looking to make a case for another title shot. Someone needs to win in impressive fashion here. A very exciting fight on a stacked card.
9. Junior Dos Santos vs. Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC Live on March 21
f Dos Santos wins he is right in the mix for a title shot. How many fights does Dos Santos have to win to prove he is legit? A win against Gonzaga will settle that right away. Gonzaga is tough anywhere the fight goes and certainly has KO power. The question in this one is: will Gonzaga stand and trade with Dos Santos? Serious title implication in this fight folks!
8. Bibiano Fernandes vs. Joachim Hansen at DREAM 13 on Mar. 22
Hansen drops down to featherweight to fight the champion of the 145 lb division. This should be a great fight and should see Hansen as the favorite if he can handle the weight cut.
7. Georges St. Pierre vs. Dan Hardy at UFC 111 on March 27
St. Pierre is a huge favorite to win this fight, but what is exciting is the question if Hardy’s punching power can dethrone St. Pierre? Will Hardy have good takedown defense? Can this fight be competitive? Heck…it’s GSP and he could be fighting his mother and I would watch.
6. Brian Bowles vs. Dominick Cruz at WEC 47 on March 6
The main even on the WEC 47 card may not be getting all the attention is deserves. Newly crowned champ Brian Bowles wants to prove he is not a one hit wonder while Cruz wants to prove he is a force in the WEC.
5. Miguel Torres vs. Joseph Benavidez at WEC 47 on March 6
Everyone will be talking about the return of Miguel Torres at UFC 47, but his opponent is a top 5 bantamweight in the world in Benavidez. The winner of this fight will likely have the right to a title shot. How will Torres bounce back from a loss?
4. Jorge Santiago vs. Mamed Khalidov at Sengoku 12 on March 7
Santiago is the Sengoku middleweight champ and a top 10-15 fighter on most lists (personally I think he is overrated). Khaldov just beat Santiago in their last fight, but it was a non-title fight. I don’t expect a different result, but I think it will be an exciting fight.
3. Brandon Vera vs. Jon Jones at UFC Live on March 21
These are two exciting light heavyweights who want to be champion. Jon Jones is a future star and he takes a huge step up in competition when he faces Vera. In his last outing Jones dominated, I mean dominated Matt Hamill. Can Jones walk through Vera?
2. Kenny Florian vs. Takanori Gomi at UFN 21 on March 31
The UFC debut of PRIDE lightweight champion Takanori Gomi is something to look forward to. While Gomi hasn’t looked like a top ten fighter lately he certainly is exciting. The match with Florian is a great fight. Dana White has said that if Gomi wins he could get a title shot. I still have to assume that Florian is the favorite to win this one.
1. Frank Mir vs. Shane Carwin at UFC 111 on March 27
To me the Mir vs. Carwin fight is the best fight of the month. Certainly the fight will be exciting. It will pit a great jiu jitsu fighter and former champ in Frank Mir against up and comer Shane Carwin for the interim heavyweight title. What makes this fight so interesting is that the winner gets Brock Lesnar. Will Mir geta third crack at Brock? Will the equally as big and strong Carwin get a chance? As of today, I am not willing to make a pick for this fight, it should be a good one.
