Brock Lesnar vs. Shane Carwin
I think Carwin is the biggest test in Lesnar’s career. Carwin matches up nicely with Lesnar. He has the size, the strength, the wrestling and the athleticism to compete with Lesnar. My question is how did the one year lay off affect Brock? I know he didn’t like the “ring rust” talk, but neither do other fighters. The UFC Heavyweight champ has a lot of future bouts now. Cain Velasquez lies in waiting for the winner. Junior Dos Santos appears next if he can get by Roy Nelson. This fight also will be for the world’s number one heavyweight position. I think this will be a good fight, but in the end Carwin has shown a little vulnerability standing. I think Lesnar is better all around and I think his wrestling is better. I look for Lesnar to finish this by Ground and Pound stoppage late in round 2.
Pick: Lesnar bY TKO in Round 2
Chris Leben vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama
Leben steps in on short notice after having fought two weeks ago. Akiyama wasn’t excited about the opponent change. I am guessign that will impact Akiyama. I doubt the Japanese judoka wants to stand and trade with Leben, but I think he can. After getting a taste of Leben’s power I think Akiyama takes Leben down and batter there.
Pick: Akiyama by Unanimous Decision
Kurt Pellegrino vs. George Sotiropolous
Pellegrino vows if he losses he will retire. That is sad because I like Kurt. George Sotiropolous is a handful. He just dominated Joe Stevenson. Pellegrino and Sotiroplous are both BJJ black belts, but George is really slick. Also, the Aussie’s stand up looks great. I think George has an advantage anywhere the fight goes.
Pick: Sotiropolous by Unanimous Decision
Kryzsztof Soszynski vs. Stephan Bonnar
The first fight was not impressive by Bonnar. An unfortunate cut led tot he end of the fight. I see the fight as fight of the night. In the end I think Bonnar is done fighting.
Pick: Soszynski by Decision
Chris Lytle vs Matt Brown
Another re-match in which Lytle took the first bout. Matt Brown is better now. He is aggressive. Still I think Brown shows vulnerability on the ground and Lytle is underrated on the ground. I think this fight finishes similar to their first fight.
Pick: Lytle by Submission
