Pascal Krauss is probably the best German prospect. According to the German MMA Site Ground and Pound the UFC has signed Krauss and he is expected to debut in Germany at UFC 122 in November. Krauss, is the Cage Warriors welterweight champion, a spot formerly held by Dan Hardy. Sherdog has had two pieces featuring Pascal Krauss. One listed Krauss as the third ranked “undefeated European Prospect“. Also, Sherdog featured Krauss in a Prospect Watch piece. Check out those links for more in-depth look at Krauss. The UFC has made no secrets about their desire to go global. They have expanded to various new markets in the last year or two including Germany, Abu Dahbi, and Australia. They also have plans to invade China, India, Brazil, mainland Europe, and even a possibility of Japan. When the UFC brings a show to those venues they like to have native fighters on the card. I am sure Krauss is hoping to be what Bisping has been for the U.K., St. Pierre has been for Canada and what Sotiropolous has been for his native Australia.
Krauss is a talented boxer and is quickly learning jiu jitsu. I think it is safe to conclude that Krauss is the most talented German fighter in the UFC roster. The casual MMA fan may not fnd Krauss’ signing newsworthy, but many people feel Krauss can be a real force in the UFC welterweight division.
Look for more German talent to be snatched up for the November event. Germany does not have an overload of talent, but also keep an eye on 19-year old light heavyweight prospect Jonas Billstein.
No word has been given on Krauss’ opponent. Expect fellow German fighters Dennis Siver and Peter Sobotta (vs. Amir Sadollah) to appear on the card alongside TUF 11 veteran Kris McCray.
UFC 122 will take place on November 13th in Oberhausen, Germany. The event will air live on tape delay.
