There was some movement in the world’s lightweight rankings. At UFC 125 Frank Edgar, the world’s current #1 lightweight fought Gray Maynard to a draw. Edgar will maintain his number one ranking, but Maynard has moved up to the world #2 spot. The two will reportedly duke it out a third time for the UFC belt and the world number one ranking.

Also of significance, Clay Guida submitted Takanori Gomi, moving him into the #12 spot. Jim Miller continued to impress with a win over Charles Oliveira. Josh Thomson fell in the rankings due to a loss to Tatsuya Kawajiri at Dynamite. Anthony Pettis won the WEC title by defeating Ben Henderson and Pettis’ stock is on the rise. Also, Mac Danzig convincingly knocked out Joe Stevenson.

Just outside the top 25 are Mizuto Hirota, Nik Lentz, Donald Cerrone, Gleison Tibau, Shane Roller and Satoru Kitaoka.

In the rankings breakdown 19 of the top 25 fighters are in the UFC while 3 are fighting for Strikeforce (Melendez, Cavalcante, & Thomson), 2 for DREAM (Aoki & Kawajiri), and 1 for Bellator (Alvarez).  This shows the UFC dominance in acquiring the best talent in the world.
