MMA Sun’s number one overall prospect, Chris Weidman will finally get his chance in the UFC. The news came today from various sources that Weidman has indeed signed with the UFC and will replace the injured Rafael Natal at UFC on Versus 3 on March 3. His opponent will be the tough veteran Alessio Sakara.
Sakara will be a big test for Weidman. Sakara has great striking and has done fairly well in the UFC. However, Sakara gas yet to face a wrestler like Weidman. Weidman is a Division I all-American wrestler at Hofstra University. He even has a college wrestling victory over Ryan Bader.
Weidman is the total package. He trains out of Serra-Longo gym in New York. His trainers rave about his potential. I have heard numerous people compare his skill set and drive to that of UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez. The 26-year old Wiedman is only 4-0 in his career, but look for Weidman to become a recognizable name.
